I have had a love-hate relationship with my name, mainly since people find it hard to pronounce my first name. My mother named me Mythili because she thought it was musical. It is also synonymous to Sita. Other synonyms include Janaki and Amba.

Mythili is a derivative of "Mithila Raja ki beti", the daughter of the King of Mithila, and pronounced as [majt̪ili], not to be confused with the language Maithili or with the Mollywood actor. I find it easier to go by Myth, when I teach or when ordering a cappuccino at Starbucks.

My last name, pronounced [menʌn] is from here, and not here
